The State of California requires (ALL) ARMED Security Officers / Private Patrol Operators (PPO) to Qualify Regularly, AFTER receiving the Bureau of Security & Investigative Services (BSIS) FIREARM PERMIT.     The Qualifications MUST be completed with a (BSIS) Certified Firearms Instructor.     THE (BST) FACILITY will provide the Documentation that needs to be submitted to (BSIS), after successful completion of (ALL) the Required Quarterly Qualifications.

There is a total of TWENTY–FOUR (24) MONTHS in a TWO (2) YEAR Period, which divides into FOUR (4) QUARTERS with (EACH) QUARTER having SIX (6) MONTHS.     There MUST be (ONLY) ONE (1) QUALIFICATION (PER) QUARTER (6–Months).     It MUST be at (LEAST) FOUR (4) MONTHS (AFTER) the (PREVIOUS) QUALIFICATION.     There CAN be MORE than SIX (6) MONTHS between TWO (2) QUALIFICATIONS, if the TWO (2) QUALIFICATIONS are in TWO (2) DIFFERENT CONSECUTIVE QUARTERS.

The (BSIS) Certified Firearms Instructor should give you the Completed and Signed (BSIS) FIREARM PERMIT RANGE QUALIFICATION FORM after (EACH) Qualification, for you to KEEP until it is time to SUBMIT (ALL) FOUR (4) QUALIFICATION FORMS to (BSIS) at one time.     You should MAKE Copies of (ALL) FOUR (4) QUALIFICATION FORMS to KEEP for your Records, prior to Submitting the Originals.

Once you receive the (BSIS) FIREARM PERMIT, the (BST) QUALIFICATION CALENDARS listed ABOVE can assist you, with tracking your REQUIRED Quarterly Qualifications.     Each (BOX) represents ONE (1) MONTH of the Firearm Permit. Each (LINE) represents ONE (1) QUARTER (6–Months) of the Firearm Permit.     There MUST be (ONLY) ONE (1) QUALIFICATION (PER) QUARTER (6–Months).     It MUST be at (LEAST) FOUR (4) MONTHS (AFTER) The (PREVIOUS) QUALIFICATION.

After you complete (EACH) Quarterly Qualification you will be MAILED the (BST) QUALIFICATION POSTCARD REMINDER to inform you when it is time to complete your (NEXT) Quarterly Qualification with (BST).     Each POSTCARD Represents ONE (1) QUARTER (6–Months) of the Firearm Permit.     (BSIS) does NOT mail Firearm Permit Quarterly Qualification Reminders.

On the Fourth and Final Quarterly Qualification of the Firearm Permit, you (MUST) PASS the (BSIS) GUARD CARD FINAL EXAMINATION and (BSIS) FIREARM PERMIT WRITTEN EXAMINATION Again.     You can review the (BSIS) FIREARM PERMIT TRAINING MANUAL before attending.     The Handgun Parts (REVOLVER / SEMI–AUTO) start on (Page#50).     The Appropriate Use Of Force (AUOF) start on (Page#58).     The Range Training Instructions and Course Of Fire (COF) start on (Page#95).

RENEWING A CURRENT
(BSIS) FIREARM PERMIT

A.          As a Courtesy the (BSIS) FIREARM PERMIT RENEWAL NOTICE will be MAILED to you BEFORE your the Current (BSIS) Firearm Permit Expiration Date
B.          You (MUST) SUBMIT (ALL) FOUR (4) REQUIRED FIREARM PERMIT QUALIFICATIONS / RENEWAL DOCUMENTS with the ($118.00) RENEWAL FEE Payable To (BSIS), AT LEAST SIXTY (60) DAYS (BEFORE) the Firearm Permit Expiration Date
C.          If (ALL) Four (4) Firearm Permit Qualifications / Renewal Documents are NOT (Received / Accepted) by (BSIS) BEFORE the Expiration Date, your Firearm Permit will EXPIRE and you MUST (Start Over) by REAPPLYING
D.          This means you must WAIT for the NEW Firearm Permit Initial Application to PROCESS, BEFORE you can CARRY a Handgun On Duty AGAIN
E.          You should always MAKE Copies of ALL your Documents to KEEP for your Records, prior to Submitting the Originals to (BSIS)
F.          TO BE CLEAR, There is NO Reinstatement Period for an EXPIRED Firearm Permit AFTER the Expiration Date
